XID

X

XID: A transaction identifier used in the DHCP protocol to correlate client requests with server responses. Each DHCP exchange includes a randomly generated XID value, allowing clients and servers to match messages across the multi-step DHCP process, even when multiple transactions are occurring simultaneously. XID is essential for ensuring message integrity and correctness, particularly in environments with relays, redundant servers, or high request volumes, where responses may arrive out of order or from multiple sources.
