Inaugural Jill R. Mervin Business Leadership Award Celebrates Professional Women Inspiring Women’s Success

Tracy Monday, Former COO of Cloud Gateway, Named as First Honoree

WAYNE, Pa., August 30, 2022 – On the heels of Women’s Equality Day, the Jill R. Mervin Business Leadership Award has been established to honor professional women who lift other women in the global workforce. Tracy Monday, former COO of Cloud Gateway, will be the first recipient of the award, which celebrates female leaders who inspire and cultivate excellence, opportunity, and ambition for women coming up in their careers.

Created by Katrin Hillner, President and CEO of PCN (PC Network Inc), in honor of her first mentor, the award recognizes women who embody Mervin’s generous spirit as a guide and advocate for other women to reach their truest potential.

“We all stand on the shoulders of the shining examples that came before us,” said Hillner. “When I met Tracy Monday, I recognized this profound quality immediately. Both Mervin and Monday embody the spirit and actions that help other women thrive. Tracy’s impressive global career, commitment to giving back, and powerful positive energy exemplify the attributes I am looking to celebrate and amplify with this distinction.”

The Jill R. Mervin Business Leadership Award recognizes global women executives who inspire and cultivate excellence, opportunity, and ambition in women in the workforce.  Future honorees, like Monday, will be women whose leadership example make an extraordinary impact on the organizations they support, the customers they serve, and the teams of individuals they lead.

Tracy Monday said, ‘Working in the UK hot spot of entrepreneurs and tech innovators has never been more fun and receiving this award is the icing on the cake. I want to inspire women to see this industry as the best career choice. The industry is changing, and we need to continue to work hard to drive total equality and inclusion. We live in an ‘on-demand’ society. Technology plays an integral part in every aspect of our lives, but the workforce is not yet representative. I, like many women, want to see a more diverse workforce – diversity of culture and of thought.”

To be conferred annually, a $1,000 donation will be made in the name of Jill R. Mervin Business Leadership Award honorees to a non-profit of the recipient’s choice.  Monday has selected TeenTech an award-winning charity, founded in 2008 by Maggie Philbin and Chris Dodson, to receive the donation.

TeenTech helps young people understand the opportunities in the science, technology. and engineering (STEM) industries, regardless of gender and social background.

“One of my most rewarding working days was spent with TeenTech in Leicester supporting hundreds of school children at a tech exhibition just before lockdown. Positive encouragement can make such a difference to how young people imagine their futures.” said Monday.

Carnegie Mellon University – ICIT Capstone Project

WAYNE, Pa., May 16, 2022 – PCN’s President & CEO, Katrin Hillner and Dr. Bruce Young, PCN’s GRC Practice Lead, recently met with master’s students from Carnegie Mellon University to support research into the state of cybersecurity risk for education institutions. The student team was assessing current risks and threats to both K-12 and Higher Education organizations and sought the expertise of security leaders to gather observations and opinions from technical, policy, and management perspectives. Katrin provided valuable insight into effective cyber and technology management, citing that security leaders need to “acknowledge the priorities of these institutions, and then tie cyber to them” as a way to bridge the ostensible gap between school administrators and IT teams. Highlighting that many institutions are seeking assistance in bolstering their security, Dr. Young noted that many could benefit from a centralized security operations center (SOC), a concept that he and others have been focusing on at Harrisburg University. This idea would “utilize cloud-based mechanisms and rely on strategically placed sensors that report back to the centralized SOC,” helping to lessen the burden on schools’ limited personnel and resources.

Mack Peterman, a part-time PCN security analyst, was also a member of the student team and attributes much of the project’s successful completion to his experience and time working with Katrin and Dr. Young. “My time with PCN’s GRC Practice has provided excellent learning opportunities that have supported both academic and professional projects. A huge thank you to Katrin and Bruce for their leadership and guidance and I hope that PCN and CMU continue to work together to promote cyber awareness and training!”
